Spring 2024 Newsletter!

Spring has sprung on our block, and we come to you with a seasonal news briefing and event alert!

First, all hail the glorious daffodils and tulips! What a very welcome and quiet joy it has been to return to the block in the past month, and find those miraculous flowers waving in a collective, colorful greeting. Many thanks to our neighbors, young and old, who helped plant the bulbs last fall.

To keep that magic going, now is the time to plant our summer impatiens. As usual, we will be hosting our spring planting party, and all are invited to come out and lend a hand. Please mark your calendars:

• Spring Planting Party

• 4:30PM-7:00PM, Thursday, May 30th

• Annual block photo at 5:30PM!!!

No prior gardening skills required, and the pros at City-Scape Landscaping will be on hand to direct the planting. As usual, we’ll be closing the block to cars during the planting, and serving refreshments generously donated by our friends at Gristedes.

Last but not least, we are thrilled to announce that our block has merch! We have re-created the legendary “Spirit of 78th Street” t-shirts, originally silkscreened by hand on the block, and worn with pride in the 1970s and ‘80s. Get your very own, limited edition t-shirt in our NEW online store! ALL proceeds go to the 78th Street Block Association, and will be used for more cleaning, pruning, and planting.
